6 content ideas to drive more traffic to your website

by | Content creation, Content marketing, Copywriting

By the time you reach the end of this page, you’ll have a list of content ideas that’ll answer your audience’s questions and drive traffic to your website

Would it surprise you to know that more people turn to the Internet than any other source of information and support?

You see, for almost everything we do, we use the Internet. From baking a cake, through to solving a complex business problem.

At this point, you realise that companies who succeed at driving traffic to their websites, do so by creating content that answers a question or solves a problem.

So what’s the magic formula for creating such useful, relevant content?

This part is easy. Take note of these content ideas.

Content idea 1. Interview an expert

Ask a subject matter expert to contribute to a Q&A style post, so that you can tell a story and solve a problem from a new perspective.

Moreover, show your audience you know the right people.

As a traffic generator, blog post interviews help you to increase:

  • Your audience and your network
  • Social sharing of your content
  • Backlinks to your website

Content idea 2. Give something useful away

Everyone likes a freebie. Especially if your freebie offers a quick win to solve a problem. And it is easy to digest.

Here’s a tip. Set your freebie up so your reader can only download it in exchange for an email address. In other words, turn it into a lead magnet.

As a result, you’ll open up the door to further communication – such as an email sequence.

Easy downloadables include:

  • Checklists: A list of simple, actionable tasks to help your reader solve a problem
  • Cheatsheets: Similar to checklists, a cheat sheet is a quick and easy reference guide
  • Templates: Such as an Excel spreadsheet, a calendar or a planner
  • E-books: Have you written a series of blogs on a particular topic? Gather them together, write an introduction and a conclusion and, just like that, you have an e-book.

Content idea 3. Repurpose an existing piece of content

Be mindful that your audience is likely to enjoy engaging with media in different formats.

Therefore, you can increase the chances of getting people to your site to view your content by repurposing it.

To illustrate:

  • Take the most important points out of a blog post and turn it into an infographic
  • Create a SlideShare presentation from a blog post
  • Turn a blog post into a video (easily using a mobile device)

Consequently, as well as drawing traffic to your website, you’ll increase your chances of your audience sharing your repurposed content on social media.

Content idea 4. Create a listicle (an article formed from… a list)

The wonderful list post. They’re easy to put together and easy for your audience to scan.

When you create a listicle, you aim to share information you think your audience would find useful in an easy to read and understand format.

For instance, you can list your:

  • Favourite tools
  • Tips and tricks
  • Interesting industry statistics

To get further engagement, ask your audience to add to the list.

Content idea 5. Share a customer case study

People love stories. They spike curiosity and therefore draw readers in. Better still they’re memorable.

Beyond that, customer case studies help people to relate to events. And empathise with problems.

What’s more, because case studies tell real stories told by real customers, they provide the ultimate proof you can do what you say you can do.

Content idea 6. Write a how-to post

A how-to post is the perfect way to show your audience you’re a useful resource.

All you need to do is to write a simple tutorial or a step-by-step guide to show how your product/service can provide the answer to a common question.

Let’s recap

You know your audience uses the Internet to find answers to its questions.

Therefore, if you want to drive more traffic to your website, it makes sense to create content that shows how your products/services can solve problems.

To create blog content that answers your audience’s questions, include one or all of these content ideas in your editorial calendar.

  • Interview an expert
  • Give something useful away
  • Repurpose an item of existing content
  • Create a listicle
  • Share a case study
  • Write a how-to post

Can you think of more problem-solving content ideas you can add to my list?
